Discernment, Wisdom, & Confidence in God's Timing

Beloved saints of Trinity,

It’s hard to believe, but we have just crossed our first 90 days together. In these first few months we have already shared so much.

This time between rectors is a gift of time, in a lot of respects. One where you are invited to take inventory of your unique purpose as a faith community, deeply consider who now is your neighbor and how is God calling you to love and care for them, and deepen your relationships with one another. 

It’s also a time to shed some habits that haven’t served you as well over the past and try on new things that may bring about new life. It’s a time to return to ways of being that may have morphed or gotten lost or just forgotten. And sometimes, not always, but sometimes, it’s a time to thank a thing and let it sunset.

I’m sure over these next months we’ll get to experience each of these aspects and all of it will point to the ways you are preparing for new clergy leadership.

Saints of Trinity, you will notice a new prayer added to our liturgy this Sunday, it’s for you and the vestry and the search committee. It’s a prayer acknowledging that God alone knows all our needs; it invokes the Holy Spirit to guide us through this time; it asks God to give us “discernment,” “wisdom,” and “confidence in your timing.” These are powerful words that have rich meaning in our tradition. 

Over the next few weeks we’ll be exploring, just a glimpse, about what we mean when we use these words.

And all the while, praying for God to evermore knit us together so that the love we share can be shared with the world.
