Ministry Minute - May 22, 2011 - John Woodward

Hi, I’m John Woodward, and this is a Ministry Minute.  Actually, without Tony doing timekeeping, I figure I might be good for 10 or 15 minutes!  A Ministry Minute is an opportunity for a parishioner to talk about their ministry, church activities with which they are involved, or aspects of Trinity they particularly like.  I was pleased to be asked to do a Ministry Minute because Trinity is such a wonderful place, and treated me so well when I was sick a few years ago.

Standing up here with by choir garb, some of you might have guessed that I am a member of the adult choir.  So I could talk to you about how much I enjoy it, how much we learn about music and theology from Robert, and what a fun and loyal group it is.  But Sandra Henderson talked about the choir last week, so I am not going to do that.

Instead, I am going to talk about the Trinity website, trinityconcord.org, of which I am the webmaster.  We have had a website since 2002.  It is useful for attracting new members, staying connected with current members, and providing a discussion forum.  The current website is our 4th design, and was designed by a team including me, Colby Anderson, Carolyn Luby, Debbie Scarff, and led Marc Ubaldino.  I thank them for their help with the website.

The site contains announcements, information about Trinity and its Worship, Education, Activities, and Outreach.  It has a special section for Newcomers and a discussion forum.  The site also contains several features that are updated regularly:  1) a recording of each week’s Sermon, 2) Rick Wheeler’s Commentary on each week’s Collect, 3) the monthly Window, and 4) Ministry Minutes.  In fact the sermons have been listened to by people as far away as Japan and China.

I would also like to thank everybody who provides content for the site.  And, encourage more people to do so.  Providing content is easy—there are links at the bottom of every page telling you how to provide me with content and providing a way to upload pictures.  Any pictures you upload are available to Susan as well for use in her wonderful publications.

We are particularly in need of additional information about Activities and Outreach, so if you are involved in one of these areas I especially encourage you to contact me.  Also, if Commission Heads want to provide more information about their work, that would be fantastic.

I have found reaching out with the website to be very rewarding, and I invite you to share in this ministry.  I especially encourage everybody to signup for the online discussion forum.  I think it would be great to start a vibrant community there!

Thank you.
